I just finished my outside horse chores and walking the dog.  I actually needed gloves and my carhart jacket, not to mention warm socks.  Oh, I don't think I would survive a New York winter after being in Texas for almost 20 years!!!  I do miss these autumn colors, I am working on several  paintings inspired by the breath taking colors of  autumn in western New York.

"Bucket of Apples" transparent watercolor by Texas artist Linda Bein

"Bucket of Apples"
transparent watercolor
22"x15"
$375
Fall is the perfect time for apple picking.  We would  pick a bushel or two every fall when we lived in New York State, the orchard was less than a mile from our house.   The kids enjoyed the wagon ride, eating an apple and picking more. Of course the donuts and cider were a big hit too. And they couldn't wait for all the  baked goods we made, cakes, pies, breads, applesauce, donuts.  I can smell the yummy apple cinnamon aroma wafting from the kitchen now.

This watercolor brings back the memories of the fall in in western New York State.  We would ride the wagon and pick apples in the apple orchards and have cider and donuts after our work was done.  Then we would go home and my daughters would help make apple muffins, bread, and pies, and of course their favorite, homemade applesauce.   We would pick out our pumpkins in the pumpkin patches   There were always stands selling gourds and squash.  Some of those squash were 15" long and 4-5 inches in diameter. They make the best chocolate zucchini bread.  I will say that the squash in Texas is small, I thought everything was bigger in Texas????  whats up with that?  Probably not enough rain!!!!

This watercolor painting was started on 140 pound arches cold press paper using winsor newton transparent watercolor and saran wrap.  You place the saran wrap on wet paint and it leaves spaces and lines.  After it is dry you look at it and wonder, "what on earth have I done this time?"  It doesn't look like anything.  After turning it around and looking at it several days or weeks you imagine something on the paper.  This turned out to be a horse.  I could not decide what to name this work so I asked my students.  I combined their suggestions of sunrise and majestic.
